If you know about curry you would know that in theory it is nothing more than a stew with a sauce in which spices are abundant. In practice, it is so much more. It’s also varied: a dish, especially from East and Southeast parts of the Asian continent, incorporates nuances depending on its origin.

So we took our time to prepare you this list of our favourite restaurants to have delicious curry at – with a focus on the Indian and Pakistani varieties. Are you ready to taste some of the best curry in Barcelona?

Casa Masala

Located at Carrer de Muntaner and is the former Masala 73 Curry Bar which has now been renamed Casa Masala. The origin of this restaurant was a food truck and they have been making Indian food for years, like few others in Barcelona. It is decorated with a lot of charm and fuses a modern style with some casual corners, the place is very cozy.

A unique dish at this restaurant that will fascinate you is its Vindaloo pork taco, which is a Goan curry with influences from Portuguese cuisine. The Brinjal Baingain Bharta is an atypical find and a sweet highlight is the Chai ice cream that you can’t leave without trying. If you have a hard time deciding, we recommend the Maharaja menu that includes three starters, a rice, a cheese naan, a chicken tikka masala and dessert.

Mirch Barcelona

Mirch restaurant is located in the heart of the Raval district at Carrers del Ángels street, 12. Its founder and chef is Ivan Surinder, also owner of the restaurant Tandoor. Mirch is a very informal “garito” that aims to serve a fusion of Indian flavors but in its most Mediterranean version.

Mirch is known as the little brother of Tandoor, at least that’s how Ivan defines it. A short, simple menu with four types of curries served in bowls, two vada pavs (which are Indian burgers), and some naans. Nothing else is needed. The place is small so reservations are recommended.

Tandoor

Also owned by chef Ivan Surinder, Tandoor is definitely one of the best Indian restaurants in Barcelona. It has a modern atmosphere and is a place where you will not only have sensory stimuli with your palate but also with your eyes thanks to the care with which everything is presented. You just have to go to their website and/or Instagram to get a preview. The young and smiling Surinder renovated and took the reins of this restaurant when he was only 23 years old, inherited from his father but providing it with modern touches.

Their star dishes are the Galouti Kebab which is Indian-style lamb and legumes croquette, the Oyster with mango and tamarind juice, the Mutton Korma that is lamb stewed with coconut milk and nuts and the Chicken Tikka Masala. Always remember to leave room for dessert as they have two paradisiacal desserts: the chocolate and cardamom Samosa accompanied by coconut ice cream and the saffron and cinnamon Kulfi which is a typical homemade ice cream from India.

Baby Jalebi

The trendy Pakistani restaurant in Barcelona has 2 locations, one located in Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes 452 and the second in the Gracia district. Both restaurants are cozy, with a very simple and casual style. Their menu takes you on a route through the streets of Pakistan and India, guided by their best street delicacies.

Their specialty is Pakistani cuisine but street food. The place breathes that informal air, checkered tablecloths, enameled dishes and curries at a very good price.
