Are you up for a delightful journey to China right here in Barcelona? Even if you’re a seasoned traveler, you might be surprised to learn that this incredible city boasts its very own Chinatown, and it’s thriving! Here are some tips on how to make the best of Barcelona’s little slice of China.

Where is the Chinatown in Barcelona?

First things first, where is Barcelona’s Chinatown? It’s a good question and you’ll often get a lot of different answers. Yet, within Barcelona there’s only one real Chinatown that resembles those that you’d find in London, San Francisco, etc. And that’s the one that’s tucked behind the Passeig de Sant Joan.

There’s no archway – although admittedly that would be quite a cool addition to the area – but you’ll know you’ve arrived because most of the shops in the area carry colorful symbols and signs that are from China and other asian nations.

Specifically, we’re looking at the those streets beyond the main Passeig. Focused on Napols, Roger de Flor, Sicilia and Sardenya – as well as the intersecting streets between those – and leading right up to the Diagonal Avenue. The nearest metros are Arc de Triomf and Tetuan.

Once there, you’ll be surprised at how much like a big-city Chinatown this is becoming. It’s a fascinating break from the rest of the city.

What to find in Barcelona’s Chinatown?

Asian Supermarkets

For those in pursuit of authentic ingredients for a delectable stir-fry or any other Asian delight, you’re in for a treat! Barcelona’s Chinatown is home to plenty of Asian supermarkets where you can explore an array of products. Most of the food labels are available in both English and Spanish, making your shopping experience a breeze. Expect the staff to also be able to communicate in Spanish and English but not always! However, that’s what makes these places so authentic.

What’s more, the products you’ll find here are often not only more affordable but also incredibly rich compared to the pretenders that you’ll discover at Carrefour, Mercadona, or similar supermarket chains. These are often the same brands that people use in those countries. Don’t miss the impressive selection of exotic sauces and Jiaozi (Chinese dumplings).

Chinese Cuisine

If your taste buds are craving an authentic Chinese dining experience, you’re in for a treat with numerous restaurants to choose from. One of the city’s finest and most budget-friendly options is Chen Ji, where you can savor mouthwatering dishes for under 10€ per meal. Be sure to try their freshly made fried noodles! And if you’re in the mood for a different Asian cuisine, you can find lots more in Chinatown.

Chinese Services

For Chinese visitors to Barcelona or those who’ve recently arrived in the city, an array of unique services await you. Whether you need assistance with travel arrangements, real estate, insurance, a workshop, tailor, or even a haircut, you’ll find a wide range of services catering to your needs.

You’ll also come across charming Chinese-owned bazaars offering affordable household goods and sometimes even clothing. So, don’t miss the chance to explore this bustling area of Barcelona, where the heart of China beats right alongside the vibrant spirit of the city!
